The Ulysses System consists of a SATA 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD) embedded in a tape cartridge housing. Together with the Ulysses Tape Drive Emulator, Ulysses cartridges allow you to add HDD performance to your existing tape system with no hardware or software modifications. Ulysses is available for library or standalone and can restore files up to 10 times faster than a tape-only library.

The Ulysses Desktop Tape Drive Emulator and the Ulysses HDD Cartridges create a complete solution that provides the performance advantages of disk and the economics of tape. The Ulysses System is highly scalable allowing forward capability to future higher capacity cartridges. You can also scale capacity by adding additional HDD Cartridges.

The desktop system is ready to use

Connect the SCSI cable, power up, and you can start writing data. No matter what tape drive you are currently using, your software will see the Ulysses unit as an additional tape drive. So there is no need to modify your back up software. Ulysses Technology emulates tape formats such as:
- LTO Ultrium^TM 1 - 6 drives
- 9840, 9940, and T10000 drives
- 3480, 3490 or 3590 drives
- DLTtapeTM, Super DLTtape drives
- 9-track drives
- Helical scan drives (such as 4mm and 8mm)

- A rugged metal enclosure contains the Ulysses Emulator and the power supply.

- Stacking features align and secure stacked units.

- The front bezel includes four status LEDs and an eject switch.

- Dual SCSI connectors make daisy chaining and termination easy.

- The power modules include an AC switch and dual fuses.
